How Alcohol Clouds Your Judgement

If you are an old enough person, you’d have probably met a category of people who always show too much self confidence when it comes to alcohol. They are always prepared to defend their drinking habit. Alcohol can not have a hold on them. Addiction can be a thread to other people but, not to them! There is no way they can be part of the statistics…
.
Well; I’m sorry, but that behavior has pride, haughtiness, and arrogance written all over it! And we know Proverbs 16: 18 advises against such! Pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall. Once you show qualities of being arrogantly superior and disdainful, a fall is soon to follow. So; how does alcohol cloud the arrogant’s judgement? I am glad you asked! Let’s search the scriptures…
.
Habakkuk 2: 5a (AMP)- Moreover, wine is treacherous, and it betrays the arrogant…
.
There are two things in this verse that- if you are attentive- you should have noticed! But if you have not; allow me to highlight them for you:
.
1. Wine is treacherous…
The synonym of treacherous is treasonous, and it applies to one who is guilty of the crime of treason. This crime involves (among others) conspiring to overthrow the government and grab authority and dignity out of her hands.
.
Now, there are countries in which treason is treated as a crime that demands life imprisonment. And in some; even worse- death penalty! So, if governments of the world are prepared to destroy those they consider treacherous; what more you with alcohol!
.
When the bible says wine is treacherous; that means  its plan is to rob the drinker of their authority and dignity. I know people ( some of them are my relatives) who were once respected by their communities; and because of the traitorous hard stuff; their worth and dignity have dropped to rock bottom. There’s nothing they say that carries weight anymore!
.
2. Wine betrays…
.
The word ‘Betrayal’ can mean:
.
a) To give information to one’s enemy about him…
.
An example of this is when Judas Iscariot exposed Jesus to danger by exchanged ideas with the enemy on how he could hand Him over to them. Simply put; alcohol has the potential to expose you to danger…
.
b) To deliberately cause a person to believe something that is not true…
.
  • One of the lies an alcohol causes you to believe is that once you indulge, you suddenly become stronger than you really are. You now know how to push others around. But when you are approached in your sober state, you are as meek as m-e-e-k can be spelled.
  • Another common lie is that once you indulge you suddenly become a magnet for the opposite sex. And more often than not, you tend to make mistakes. The un-attractive girl that you saw when you entered the party in your sober state- all of a sudden- becomes drop dead gorgeous after a number of shots.

What do you think happened there? In case you cant put your finger on what really happened; let me enlighten you. At 2 am you started seeing her through the eyes of the beholder beer-holder. You; my friend; allowed yourself to be deceived! Your judgment had been clouded by alcohol!
