Please Do Not Feed The Fears

There are things which- if not prepared for- have a potential to paralyze anyone with fear.

Imagine this for a minute!

You have settled down into a routine of your life, in the neighborhood whose lingo you master, the city whose street names you know by heart, the country whose traffic signs you’re familiar with, and lots of support from family and friends; when- out of nowhere- you are instructed to get a one-way ticket to this country you’ve never been before.

Oh! And there’s no guarantee that once you get there, your basic needs will be met…You know, WiFi and all!

.
As if that isn’t enough! Although you don’t know the location of this country in question; no one bothers to provide you with GPS coordinates or at least even landmarks! Nothing! Just an instruction to “Go”.
.
This is exactly what happened to a certain Leader by the name of Abram (whose name God changed to Abraham later). He was given the following instruction:
 .
Genesis 12: 1… Leave your country, your people and your father’s household and go to the land I will show you…
.
You can read my post titled:  You Wont Reach Your Destiny If You Don’t Untie Yourself  and learn what the LORD meant by those words mentioned in the scripture above. But, today we are going to look at the response of this man; and in a process, learn how Fearless Leadership looks like.
.
More often than not; people we envy due to their bravery, also feel fear the same way we do; only, they handle it differently. You see; courage is not the absence, but the mastery of fear. They do fear; but with less intense(Fear-less). They often doubt their doubts more than doubting God.
 .
Now; most of us- when experiencing the reality of our lives- often try to convince GOD why things wont work out:
  • I’m too tall
  • I’m too old
  • I’m too poor
  • I’m too black
  • I’m too short
  • I’m too young
  • I’m a foreigner
  • I cant speak the language

But if we are going to wait for the picture of our reality to become perfect; we will never achieve much. Fearful people tend to become content with mediocrity.
 .
You will notice that Abram does not try to educate God on how his reality looks like. Instead, he does what fearless Leaders do…He walks by faith, not by sightAlthough he does not know where he is going, he starts walking anyway- trusting that the same God who said “Go” will fill him in on the nitty gritties of the journey while he has already taken the first step. He trusts God so much that he is prepared to occlude his sight and follow His voice.

He obeys the LORD!

.
The writer to Hebrews puts it better than me…
.
Hebrews 11:8- By faith Abraham, when called to go to a place he would later receive as his inheritance, obeyed and went, even though he did not know where he was going.
 .
The key word in this verse is ‘Obeyed’. Our obedience is an indication that we have faith in God. And having faith in God is trusting in both His Capability and Character. Now; the opposite of faith is fear; so if I am fearful, I’m simply saying to God: I doubt You are able to win my battles (Capability), and I don’t trust You to come through for me (Character).
.
If our God- who is Omniscient- says “Move”, we should move, simply because; well; He is All-knowing! Things do not have to always make sense or even be less scary before we obey an instruction from God.
.
Abraham had faith enough to obey; only to find out later that the country he was instructed to move to was actually an inheritance waiting for him. Imagine if he would have allowed fear to paralyze him! His descendants (Jews) would not have title deed to the land of Israel today.
 .
Obedience is the act that defeats fear!
